
Lincoln County voters weighed in on several closely watched local and statewide races Tuesday as unofficial final results were released following Nebraska’s primary election.
According to unofficial final totals from the Lincoln County Clerk’s Office, 5,916 ballots were cast out of 23,105 registered voters for a turnout of 25.60%.
One of the most closely followed local races of the night was the North Platte School Board Ward 3 contest.
Kyle Nichols led the race with 799 votes, followed by Emily Garrick with 487 and Jenny Lantis with 419. A total of 1,706 votes were cast in the race.
In Legislative District 42, incumbent Mike Jacobson secured a strong lead over challenger Shaylee Scranton. Jacobson received 4,183 votes compared to 1,514 for Scranton.
North Platte City Council races also drew attention Tuesday night.
In Ward 3, Jim Riewe finished ahead with 290 votes. Scott Young received 229 votes, while Timothy Sanders finished with 147.
In the Ward 4 race, Ed Rieker led the field with 218 votes. Chester Smith received 116 votes, Tracy Martinez had 103 and Dave Vigil finished with 69.
In statewide Republican races locally, Pete Ricketts received 3,527 votes in the U.S. Senate primary. Jim Pillen led the Republican governor’s race in Lincoln County with 3,031 votes. David P. Huebner also outpolled incumbent Adrian Smith locally in the Republican Congressional District 3 race, receiving 2,712 votes compared to Smith’s 1,553.
In Democratic races locally, Cindy Burbank received 959 votes in the U.S. Senate primary, while Lynne Walz received 997 votes in the gubernatorial race. Becky Kelly Stille received 1,020 votes in the Democratic Congressional District 3 race.
The results remain unofficial until canvassed by election officials.
