News Release Rape and Domestic Abuse Program

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  The North Platte Rape and Domestic Abuse Program (RDAP) will be doing a drive-through event to hand out bags with self-care information and resources.

Bridge of Hope Advocacy Center is helping, along with other community resources.

The event will be on Friday, April 9th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm in the RDAP parking lot, 316 East Front Street.  There will be an entry for some amazing giveaways from our community.

Sexual assault affects our community and we want to share how we can help and what resources there are.  Self-care is important, especially during a time of trauma.

“Every 73 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted.  And every 9 minutes, that victim is a child. Meanwhile, only 5 out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison.” (https://www.rainn.org/statistics)

RDAP advocated around 100 victims of sexual assault during 2019 and another 100 in 2020.  Areas of victimization varied from child sexual abuse or assault, dating sexual violence, intimate partner sexual assault, sexual assault or harassment, a survivor of incest and/or sex trafficking.

Our community is affected by sexual assault, and we would like to build awareness and be able to reach more and help more.
