The North Platte Community College Knights Softball Team will host its first home games of the season Saturday. The Knights will take on Central Community College at 2 and 4 p.m. at the Dowhower Softball Complex.
In a typical year, the Knights would have already had several games at home, however, NPCC Knights Softball head coach Janelle Higgins said construction of the new nets the city is putting up at Dowhower took longer than anticipated, and the fields were not ready.
As a result, the Knights were unable to host games in February and March and instead took their play on the road.
“We have been on the road for 26 games already, which is more than other sports teams have played all season,” Higgins said. “These young ladies have earned a huge home crowd this weekend. With having their season canceled last spring to being road warriors since Feb. 15 and all other factors not in their control, they have still showed up and worked hard day in and day out. These are region games so the more support we have the better.”
The games are open to the public. Spectators will be required to wear masks and adhere to current social distancing requirements.
No gathering with friends or family within the complex will be allowed – all guests must exit immediately following the end of the games.
A livestream will also be provided at: https://npccknights.com.
The next home games, originally scheduled for April 13-14 against Dakota Wesleyan University, have been cancelled. At this point, there are no plans to reschedule them.
