John P. Johnson, a man of many talents and passions, peacefully passed away on April 10, 2024, at Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska. 

John was born on October 9, 1943, in South Gate, California to parents Malachi S. and Eva (Rogalski) Johnson. He was one of two brothers. He attended college following his high school graduation. 

John proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965 before being honorably discharged. His military service was a testament to his dedication to his country and his sense of duty towards others.

John married Christine L. (Lorenzo) Johnson on October 21, 1978 in Vallejo, California. Even though the couple did not have children, they loved many furbabies over the years. 

During his career, John embraced a variety of professions including working as a small engine mechanic and a computer programmer for Sun Micro Systems. He also found joy in truck driving and earned the endearing nickname "handlebar" for his signature handlebar mustache which he proudly sported for over five decades. His commitment to his work and the relationships he built along the way left an indelible mark on those around him. Beyond his professional pursuits, John was an individual who valued community. Known for his love for people, he dedicated his time to driving the handibus in McCook, showcasing his selfless nature and willingness to serve others. In addition to his work life, John had a deep passion for hobbies that brought him immense joy. He was an active member of several model railroad clubs throughout the years and took pleasure in riding motorcycles. In his youth, he even ventured into desert racing in the Mojave Desert, displaying his adventurous spirit and zest for life. John is survived by his beloved wife, Chris Johnson of McCook, NE; sister, Kathleen (Duncan) Blue of Watsonville, CA; niece, Bres; nephew, Josh. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Johnson.
