Larry E. Stoney, 74, of McCook, NE, formerly of Herndon, KS, passed away with family by his side at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan, KS, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Larry was born on January 18, 1949 to Harvey and Roseanna (Eby) Stoney. He graduated from Herndon High School in 1968 and then attended the Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, KS, for autobody. He married his wife, Debra Stoney, on June 10, 1989. He was blessed with five children: Michelle, Aaron, Keith, Nathan, and Kaelea.

Larry was a jack of all trades. He worked as an autobody mechanic and owned his own auto repair business. Later in life, he went on to work as a feed mill manager in Atwood, KS. He then worked as the Environmental Services Director at the Atwood Good Samaritan where he retired after 17 years of service.

You could always find Larry spending time outdoors, especially in his “sugar shack”. He enjoyed shooting guns, hunting, fishing, tinkering on mowers and other “projects” which included building his own corral for his cattle from the ground up, even inventing several of his own meat smokers. Larry took great pride in his ability to grill meats and passed this on to his sons. Family and friends often asked him to process their deer meat, or even just make some of his well-known beef jerky. Most of all though, he enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing a good joke.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Roseanna Stoney of Herndon, KS; in-laws, Howard and Irene Schneider of McCook, NE; grandson, Aiden Prewo of Logan, KS; sister-in-law, Sue Stoney of Herndon, NE; and brother-in-law Clarence Niermeier of Ludell, KS.

He is survived by his wife, Deb Stoney of McCook, NE; daughter, Michelle (Paul) Prewo of Logan, KS; son, Aaron (Shawna) Stoney of McCook, NE; son, Keith (Bethany) Stoney of Manhattan, KS; son, Nathan (Amanda) Stoney of Kingman, KS; and daughter Kaelea (Seth Kohman) Stoney of Hope, KS; as well as 11 grandchildren: Melissa, Ryan, Helen, BenLee, Tierra, Kaitlyn, Zoey, Owen, Dylan, Eli, and Willow.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 2-5PM Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.
