Leland Wayne Henry, devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska, on June 5th, at the age of 91.
Born on November 18th, 1933, at the family's farm near Woodruff, Kansas, to Ben and Zola Henry, Leland was one of ten siblings, five boys and five girls (Ella, Carl, Oda, Clarence, Harold, Maxine, Marie, Dorothy, and Wilbur).
Leland married the love of his life, Gert, on May 18th, 1954, and together they had two children: Steve and Sherry. During his career, he managed Safeway stores in Kansas and Nebraska. Leland spent most of his free time tinkering, gardening, woodworking, fishing, and hunting. He also looked forward to the annual Henry boys fishing trip and Las Vegas birthday gambling trip. He enjoyed watching and listening to sports and followed all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's games and activities. His eyes lit up when he was with his family.
Leland is preceded in death by his dear wife, Gert (1999). He leaves behind his son, Steve (Lorri) Henry, and his daughter Sherry Seachord (Matt Fleck). Grandchildren Joy (T.J.) Fleck, Julie Seachord, Jennifer Nutter, Dr. Sarah Andrews, Ashley (Leeder) Francis, and Michael (Trista) Henry. Great-grandchildren “The Grands,” Jayla and Reese Fleck, Gaven, Oliver and Eva Nutter, Caitlyn, Olivia, Annabelle and Leo Francis, Shane Smith and Everett Henry. Also survived by siblings, Dorothy Newbold and Wilbur (Brenda) Henry.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you never went alone. For part of us went with you the day God called you home.
Grandpa Henry, we miss you already. We are saying goodbye for now-until we meet again, all of our love, forever...
The family is planning a graveside service at a later date.
