Betty Cura-Castillo, 82, of Gothenburg, NE, passed away September 10, 2023, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
Betty was born in Bakersfield, California to Camille Beatrice (Keough) and Roy Hunnicutt on July 10, 1941. She graduated Bakersfield High in 1959. Betty lived in Bakersfield until she married Robert (Bob) Hockett on August 2, 1959 at the old church in Glennville, CA. They lived in Woody, CA at the old Martin Ranch on Pine Mt. Road. They had three children together: Lynn Dee (Amber), Dawn Michelle and Natalie Jean. They moved back to Bakersfield in 1967. Betty and Bob divorced shortly after in 1968.
Betty moved to Henderson, Nevada around 1969. She met Donald Earl Amen and they married on September 3, 1970. They had one child together: Noel Vincent Hunnicutt. Betty and Donald divorced a year later. Later that year, Betty married Marvin J. Wood. Betty moved back to Bakersfield, CA at the beginning of 1973. She stayed in Bakersfield until June when she moved back to Henderson, Nevada with her two youngest children. Betty managed an apartment complex in Henderson, Nevada. She came back to California in the early 80's when her father had a heart attack. She moved to Santa Rosa, CA for a short while. In 2003, her daughter, Lynn Dee Hockett now Amber Dawn Osborn who had run away and been missing for 27 years was found to be living in Gothenburg, Nebraska. Amber and her family came for a visit in 2004 and Betty moved to Nebraska shortly after. She lived just a couple of blocks from her oldest daughter, Amber. Betty enjoyed writing novels and had written four. She enjoyed art work, knitting, crocheting, cross stitch and her kitten, Baby.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Camille Hunnicutt, her brother Gordon and her youngest daughter Natalie Jean Cooper.
Betty is survived by her children Amber Osborn, Dawn Jordan and Vince Hunnicutt. Grandchildren Brian Schroder, Heather Schroder, Staci Gonzalez, Michael Jordan, Tyler Hunnicutt, Jordann Shepherd, Hailee Hunnicutt. Great grandchildren Macey Schroder, Ryker Schroder, Kyler Schroder, Tyson Jordan, Ayden Jordan, Rylee Jordan, Oliver Gonzalez, Lucas Gonzalez, Cohen Brandom and Wrenlee Brandom. Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or plants memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Senior Center or Meal on Wheels.
