North Platte, Neb. — After seven years of service on the North Platte City Council and prior experience on the North Platte Planning Commission, Councilman Ty Lucas has announced he will not seek re-election in 2026.

“When I first ran for City Council in 2017, my priorities included housing expansion and rehabilitation, community growth, quality-of-life amenities, downtown revitalization, a new recreation center, reducing the property tax burden, improving city appearance, and supporting our first responders,” Lucas said. “Over the past seven years, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside Mayor Brandon Kelliher, the department managers, and the many dedicated employees of the City of North Platte who have made significant progress on these priorities. Serving with them has been both an honor and a valuable learning experience.”

Lucas cited expanding professional responsibilities at NebraskaLand Bank and his family commitments as factors in his decision. “My wife, Jackie, and I have been married for 27 years, and we enjoy spending time with our two grown sons who now live in Omaha and Kearney. I believe it’s time for new leadership to bring fresh priorities and perspectives to the City Council,” he said.

Lucas also voiced his support for local business leader Brandon Jones as a candidate for the Ward 2 seat. “Brandon’s deep commitment to North Platte, strong business sense, and experience in economic development and infrastructure will make him an excellent representative for our ward,” Lucas said.

“It has been a true privilege to serve the people of North Platte,” Lucas concluded. “Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like additional information.”
