A synopsis of the musical:
A woman hiding in a convent helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she rediscovers her own. This feel-good comedy smash is based on the 1992 comedy film of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg.
Oscar and Tony-winning composer, Alan Menken, wanted to inspire his score off the 1970's music, specifically disco, and gospel. As a result, the setting was changed from the original movie (Reno and San Francisco in the 1990's) to Philadelphia in the 1970's.
