NPHS Volleyball: Dawgs on to district finals after forfeit

Posted Oct 26, 2020 12:37 PM

The NPHS Lady Dawgs Volleyball (20-10) team spent most of the weekend getting ready for Bellevue East. It turns out all the prep was for nothing.

The team got news on Sunday that Bellevue East would be passing on the district tournament due to a COVID 19 quarantine.

The forfeit puts the Bulldogs just one win from an automatic state tournament birth. They don't know who they play as Bellevue West (the district host) still has to play Norfolk on Tuesday night.

The forfeit also raises questions for the Bulldogs. Right now the Bulldogs are the #8 seed and poised to take the lone wildcard spot even in the event they lose the district finals. Will the NSAA give the team the points as if they beat Bellevue East? Those points could come into play if the Bulldogs lose in the District finals. Omaha Marian is lurking just four-tenths of a point behind NPHS.

The Bulldogs have not been back to the state tournament since 2015 when they made a run to the championship before falling to Omaha Marian in the finals.
