
A winter weather advisory is in effect from midnight until 6 a.m. Thursday for Lincoln County, the National Weather Service in North Platte reported.
Snow is expected to begin after midnight Tuesday, accompanied by strong wind gusting up to 40 mph.
The NWS is predicting between 3 and 5 inches of accumulation in North Platte and warned of significant drifting and poor visibility.
After a high in the mid-50s Tuesday, the temperature will dive to a low of 12 degrees Tuesday. The high Wednesday will reach just 16, with an overnight low of 6 below zero. The bitter cold will last into Friday, with the overnight low Thursday expected to be near 10 below zero.
Wind chill values could dip to as low as 30 below zero Thursday.
By the weekend, the mercury is forecast to rise, with Saturday and Sunday highs in the mid-40s.
