Betty Jo Whetro, 83, of North Platte, passed away on May 23, 2024, at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska.  On December 13, 1940, she was born to John William and Violet Pearl (Crider) Boler in Marion, OH.

Betty attended and graduated from Marion Catholic  School in Marion, OH.  Shortly after graduating, she met Ralph Whetro at age 21.  They were wed on November 16, 1963.  To their union, two daughters were born: Brenda and Susan.  A few years after the birth of their first daughter, the family moved to North Platte, where they settled.  Betty spent her career in customer service as a bartender, a bank teller, and most recently as a cashier at Walmart, where she retired in 2001.

Betty’s love for her family was evident in her actions. She loved to bake banana bread and pumpkin bread, which she often shared along with the blankets and Kleenex boxes she crocheted. Her dinner table during the Holidays was always full, as she would host those who had nowhere else to go. She also loved to travel with her kids, taking them to different destinations every summer. Her caring nature and love for her family were truly remarkable.

Betty Jo was the best example of working through fear; even when she wasn’t entirely confident, she always pushed through. Her massive sense of humor and silly personality aided her through life (and she would tell you her bowling average! A favorite activity she and her husband enjoyed for many years). Her most significant asset, though, was her Faith. Betty Jo was a devoted Catholic who once sought to become a Nun, but as fate had it, she soon met her husband.

Those that carry on Betty’s memory include her children, Brenda Miller of Hastings and Susan (Joe) McCutcheon of Bothell, WA; 9 grandchildren, Ashley (Seth) Brown of North Platte, Matthew Miller of Lincoln, Derek Miller of North Platte, Reilly Donham of Bellingham, WA, Abigail Donham of Bothell, WA, Vix Donham of Bothell, WA, Orion McCutcheon of Everett, WA, Leo McCutcheon of Bothell, WA, and Mallory Donham of Kansas City, MO; great-grandchildren, Brandyn, Breckyn, Bryce, Brayden, Emily Jane, and Oakley.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph, and her siblings, Marilyn, JoAnna, Barbara, John, and Nancy, along with several close friends: Joyce, Nina, Mary, Barbara, and many others.
