North Platte Post/Sandhills Post
Crazy week of weather has hit the state of Nebraska with high temperatures earlier in the week, than a winter storm and now heading back to spring temperatures. While temperatures may be on the rise again, the National Weather Service, North Platte Office (NWS) has issued a Red Flag Warning will be in effect today from 12:00pm (MT)/1:00pm (CT) and will end at 7:00pm (MT)/8:00pm (CT).
The NWS states the areas in the effect is across Western Nebraska and Central Sandhills into Southwest Nebraska. North Platte, Curtis, Brady, Maxwell, Hershey, Sutherland, Paxton, Ogallala, Imperial and Oshkosh are just a few of the many towns in our listening area that will be under this warning.
Critical fire conditions with rising temperatures and northwest winds of 20 - 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. If any fire develops, it may spread quickly due to the fast wind speeds. Fires have hit across Nebraska over the past few weeks and many local fire departments have issued fire bans during this time. Around this time last year, two major fires occurred outside of North Platte.
The NWS says that critical fire conditions may be possible for Saturday during the afternoon hours and also Sunday.
