North Platte man arrested on rape allegations

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-A North Platte man has been arrested on allegations of rape.

According to North Platte Police, on August 13, 2020, officers made contact with a subject at the police station who reported they had been sexually assaulted in the 2300 Block of East Philip.

Officers spoke with the victim, who indicated they had been sexually assaulted by 67-year-old Herbert Russell.

Police say the victim advised that they had been assaulted two separate times, on the night of August 12 and the morning of August 13.

Police say during the investigation, officers were able to establish probable cause to arrest Russell. Russell was later located and placed under arrest on suspicion of 1st-degree sexual assault.

Russell was incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

According to police, officers later served a search warrant at the location of the incident, where they found corroborating evidence of the assault.
