The North Platte Police Department understands that incidents such as this may cause concern for members of our community regarding their personal safety, particularly for those who regularly utilize the South Platte River walking and bicycle trail. We want the public to know that we are committed to thoroughly investigating this incident.
While the investigation remains ongoing, we also understand that members of the community may have questions about their safety when using public spaces. At this time, Investigators have no information to indicate any ongoing or immediate threat to the public beyond this reported incident. However, the investigation remains active, and officers will continue to monitor the area as additional information becomes available.
At this time, Investigators are able to release a limited description of the suspect involved in this reported incident. The suspect is described as a white male with a darker complexion, believed to be in his 30s, wearing dark clothing. The suspect description is very limited at this time.
On the evening the report was received, officers from the North Platte Police Department responded and saturated the area with the assistance of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol. Law enforcement agencies collaboratively conducted an extensive search of the riverbed and surrounding areas where the assault was reported to have occurred. During this search, a drone and a K9 unit were utilized to assist officers. No suspect was located during this extensive search.
Yesterday, Investigators with the North Platte Police Department Criminal Investigations Division processed the crime scene and again conducted an extensive search of the riverbed for potential evidence. A drone was again used to assist investigators during this search.
Today, Investigators are canvassing the area and speaking with nearby businesses and homeowners in an effort to locate potential witnesses and identify any available surveillance video that may assist with the investigation.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area of the South Platte River walking trail around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and may have seen or heard anything suspicious to come forward with any information that could assist investigators.
We also encourage businesses and homeowners along the trail who may have surveillance cameras to review their video footage and report anything suspicious that may have occurred during that time frame.
