Delmar Frederick Bader, age 84, passed away February 1, 2024 at the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood, Kansas. Delmar was born to Lorena (O’Donnell) and Fred W Bader on October 17, 1939 in Cheyenne County, Kansas. At a young age, Delmar’s father passed away in a gas truck accident. The family lived on the farm where aunts, uncles and cousins helped with his upbringing. The family relocated to Oregon after his mom remarried. Delmar and his family relocated in several different states finally settling in Nebraska where he met Stephanie Taylor. The two were united in marriage on September 8, 1962 in Julesburg, Colorado. To this union five children were born: Michael, Michelle, Delvin, Angela, and Kendel. The family lived in several different communities in the area before deciding to make Oberlin their home for the past 56 years. After serving in the Army, Delmar held a variety of jobs including photographer, salesman, mechanic, and auto body repairman at Kump Motor Company. A couple years later, he opened his own business, Del’s Body Shop in Oberlin.
Delmar enjoyed a variety of activities and hobbies including photography, shooting black powder guns, and building and flying RC planes. He loved to see how things worked and tinkered with many projects with the memorable ones being a motorized bicycle, go-carts, a hydrogen run pickup and a hovercraft. In his later years, Delmar enjoyed keeping up with his family using his computer.
Delmar was proceeded in death by his wife, Stephanie; his parents; sisters, Joan Baney and Marcia Morrow; infant son, Michael; son, Kendel; grandson, Corey and great-grandson, Rourke.
He is survived by daughters, Michelle McCarty and husband, Kevin, Bennington, Ks and Angela Fisher and husband Kendal, Oberlin, Ks; son Delvin and wife Shirley Bader, Codell, Ks; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Inurnment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery at a later date with a private family gathering. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com.
