Nebraska swimmer Gena Jorgenson capped a series of record-setting performances by taking fifth in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the 2025 Toyota USA National Championships in Indianapolis on Saturday.

Jorgenson, a two-time first-team All-American in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the 2024 and 2025 NCAA Championships, posted a Nebraska school-record and lifetime best 16:19.28 in Saturday's 1,500-meter event at the national championships.

World-record holder Katie Ledecky won gold in the event with a time of 15:36.76, which was more than 20 seconds in front of runner-up Claire Weinstein, but more than 16 seconds off her world-record time. Jillian Cox took third at 16:05.88, while Kate Hurst swam to fourth in 16:16.06, just ahead of Jorgenson.

Jorgenson's time represented her fourth school-record and lifetime best time in her four events at the USA Championships. It was the third top-eight finish for the Husker senior-to-be from Aberdeen, South Dakota at nationals, with Ledecky winning all three of the events.
