
Geraldine E. “Gerry” McKain, 100, of North Platte passed away March 9, 2022 at her home. She was born February 21, 1922 to Glenn and Hilda (Halligan) Moore at her grandparents’ home southeast of Hershey.
Gerry lived around the Hershey and North Platte area during her growing up years. She started school at Platte Valley School and after attending various schools in the area she graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1939.
Gerry married Merle McKain on October 5, 1941 after which they moved to Burbank, CA for Merle to work at the Lockheed Airplane Factory. On Pearl Harbor Day, they were sent back to North Platte (the farm) as Merle was draft age.
Gerry was active in her community as well as her church. During her life she enjoyed watching the activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She watched Mike in cross country, her grandchildren and great grandchildren in cross country, wrestling, soccer, and baseball. Gerry was involved with Farm Bureau, was a 4-H leader and was on the Lincoln County 4-H council, was a Sunday school teacher, primary teacher, volunteered for RSVP, gardened, worked in the hay field, cooked for the hay crew, and liked to crochet.
Survivors include two daughters, Marcia (Gaylen) Rogers of Highland, UT, Marlene (Bill) Songster of North Platte; son, Michael McKain of Lincoln; grandchildren, Tony (Jaylin) Rogers, Marlene Rogers, Kyle (Dana) Songster, Calvin (Jodee) Songster, Jeff (Stephanie) Songster; great grandchildren, Taiden, Tavas (Mercedes), Ava, Miles Rogers, Jayden (Kailey), Carson, Kade, Connor, Braxtton, Brooklyn, Ariizona, Declann, Estess, Lauren, McKenna, Callum, Henry Songster, Madison (Asher) Fairbank, Maison Riddle; great great granddaughter, Isabella Fairbank; brother Harvey (Jean Rae) Moore; sister Vernafae Jarchow; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Glenn and Hilda; husband, Merle; in-laws, Clyde and Irene (Curtis) McKain, great granddaughter, Jessica Songster; son-in-law, Dan Sorgenfreii; siblings, Albert (Mary) Moore, Glenn Ray Moore, Bill (Jean) Moore, Jay Laverne Moore, Dorothy (Bob) Vasa; sisters-in-law, Evelyn McKain, Lois (Bob) Reckard; niece Peggy Reckard.

Services will be held 1:30 P.M., Monday, March 14, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held noon-6:00 P.M., with family present 4:00-6:00, Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. The service will be livestreamed via the Adams & Swanson Facebook page for those unable to attend.
