
Josephine Lillian (Gusman) Dauphin, 94, of Omaha, NE formerly of North Platte, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Brookstone Village in Omaha. Born on January 9, 1928 in Bridgeport, NE she was the daughter of Emery and Myrtle (Roberts) Gusman.
Josephine was married on January 2, 1947 to William L. Dauphin in North Platte. She was a beloved mother who stayed at home and raised her children and cared for the home. She worked part time at the Telegraph Bulletin Newspaper in the circulation department. She loved to volunteer at the Camp Fire Girls Inc. and the North Platte Historical Society. Jo was an active member with the North Platte Extension Service. She enjoyed all art and crafts and was an excellent painter, wood carver and seamstress. Jo was impactful with creative art located on the carousel in Cody Park and painted a tile that can still be seen at the Veterans Memorial. Josephine was an amazing cook, loved her flowers during the summer and spending time with her family. Jo liked to fish and camp, particularly in Yellowstone, where they traveled as a family. Josephine and her husband took many trips touring US National Parks. She loved to exercise and keep active. You could always count on Jo being either on a walk, in a pool or in weight strengthening class. Her motto was "If you don't use it, you'll lose it!" Jo had many friends in North Platte that she enjoyed doing arts and crafts with as well as playing Mahjong. She celebrated every holiday by dressing up in costume, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She also had many friends at Linden Estates that would walk together and play her favorite game Rummikub. Jo had a healthy and happy life and was the best Mom, Gramie, Great-Gramie, and Aunt Jo. She always had a smile and a hug for you, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by a daughter, Melinda Jo “Mindy” (David) Turner of Omaha; a son, Leslie E. Dauphin of CO; grandchildren, Jessica Cross, Sarah (Emery) Sievert, Jonathan (Sarah) Turner, Chris Dauphin and Michael Dauphin; great grandchildren, Lillian Cross, Sophia Cross, Mia Sievert, Ally Sievert, Max Turner, Josephine Turner and Bryan Dauphin; sisters, Patricia (Jack) Hollenbach of Morrisville, NC, LaDonna Loxterkamp of Bridgeport, Cecilia Sanchez of Bayard; brothers, Leo (Carolyn) Gusman of Bridgeport, and Ronald (Janet) Gusman of Sidney; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Emery and Myrtle; husband, William “Bill” Dauphin; daughter, Janet Irene Dauphin; sisters and their spouses, Maxine (Ronald) Roberts, Francis (Richard) Sturgeon, Phyllis (Donald) Shuler, and Kathleen (Marce) Vasquez; brother, James Riley Gusman; and brothers-in-law, Don Loxterkamp and Lawrence Sanchez.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Rev. Anne Durboraw officiating. Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is entrusted with the arrangements.
