Donald (Bink)Vincent McMurtry, 93, of North Platte, passed away on October 13, 2021 at Linden Court. He was born on December 26, 1927 to Francis and Alice (Anderson) McMurtry in North Platte, Nebraska.
Donald attended North Platte Catholic Schools and finished at North Platte Public Schools. He entered the United States Navy, serving on Midway Island during WWII. After his discharge he returned to North Platte. Donald married Darlene Veronica Farrell and the couple made their home in North Platte. He made his living as a successful salesman until he purchased Uptown Motel in 1969 and ran it for many years, selling it in the early 80’s. Don was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and loved to travel, golf, play cards, sew, birdwatch and dance. Don would never turn down an opportunity to dance, especially a waltz. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and rarely missed his target. He was also very creative and artistic. He built many things throughout his life as a carpenter and craftsman. Don was an excellent storyteller and delighted in telling a good joke as well. He always shared stories of his travels and took great pride in showing what roads he took to get there with his well-used atlas. Don was blessed to spend the last several years of his life with Lucille. Together they made a lifetime of memories. Through their travels, dancing, laughter and all of her great care, he couldn’t have been happier. He was loved and cherished by his family and will be remembered by all who knew him.
