
Herschel Albert Stacey, age 93, of North Platte, Nebraska died May 13, 2021 at Linden Court in North Platte. He was born on June 8, 1927 in Longford, KS to Albert and Atta (Rose) Stacey.
Hershel grew up in Longford, Kansas on a farm. He attended Longford High School, joined the U.S. Navy at age 19, serving in WWII. Then he attended Kansas State University the first time and received a degree in agriculture, returned to KSU at the age of 33 and received his Doctorate in Veterinarian Medicine from Kansas State University on June 5, 1966.
On, December 19, 1948 in Longford, KS, he married Ruth L. Bane. The couple moved to Lincoln, NE in 1966, then moved to North Platte, NE in 1975 where Herschel worked for the federal government and retired in North Platte.
Herschel was a member of the First United Methodist Church, North Platte Carving Club, and supported the National Parks Association and various farm associations. He was a coin collector, like to square dance, always reading 3 books at a time, he loved gardening, canning, carving, ice cream, watching high school sports, refurbishing furniture, genealogy, ice cream, camping vacations, ice cream, loved his family and attending the grandkids activities, and did we say ice cream? A quick story: He and Ruth drove from North Platte to Lincoln every weekend to attend 12 high school football games, (one of their grands.) The high school awarded them “Grandparents of the Year” for being so faithful to the team. He will be missed.
Survivors include daughter, Debra (Dave) Swanson of Raleigh, NC; son, Kurt Stacey of Loveland, CO; grandchildren, Andrew (Chalon) Swanson of Raleigh, NC, Matthew Swanson of Thailand, Drew Swanson(Bianca) of Columbia, South America; Blake (Danielle) Stacey, and Apryl (Rob) Franson all of Loveland, CO; great grandchildren, Owen Stacey, Eli Stacey, Brooklynn McCauley, and Marven Franson, Carter Swanson, Cayla Swanson, and Kamaili Swanson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ruth.
Memorials may be directed to the North Platte Carvers Club.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte, NE with Pastor Micah Dunn officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday May 24, 2021 at the Greenridge Cemetery in Dickinson County, Kansas.
Visitation will be from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte, NE, which is in charge of arrangements.
