The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a phone scam.

According to LCSO, the scam is called the “One Ring Phone Scam."

LCSO says the scammer is typically from outside the United States but may appear as a United States number either because the overseas number is a 3-digit area code or because the scammers are using number spoofing or masking techniques.

LCSO says it appears there are variations to the scam, i.e. attempting to get you to respond to a “you’re a winner” voicemail or message or things of that nature.

If you call a number they give you or redial you are at risk of being charged a connection fee with significant per-minute fees as well.
