1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
The Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors met for its regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in Room 200 of the W.W. Wood Building on the North Platte Community College North Campus, 1101 Halligan Drive, North Platte, Neb.
Board Chair Cynthia Duncan started the meeting with a roll call. In addition to Duncan, those present were MPCC President Ryan Purdy and Board members: Matthew Broz, Kirk Crawley, Ted Klug Jr., Kim Korgan, Ben Lashley, Ernie Mehl, Kent Miller, Tyler Pribbeno and Tricia Schaffer. Board member Jo Etta Brown was absent and excused.
NPCC student trustee Reece Halley was also present. MCC student trustee Graci Nelson was absent and excused.
2. OPEN FORUM (Comments from students, faculty, staff, public and Board)
a. NPCC student trustee Reece Halley provided an update on happenings in North Platte.
b. Board members Ernie Mehl and Kent Miller recapped Legislative Day at the State Capitol Feb. 28.
3. RECOGNITIONS
a. The Board was introduced to members of the NPCC Knights Women’s Basketball Team. The Knights made it to the North Central A District Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this year. They finished the 2023-24 season with an 18-12 record, while claiming their third Region IX title in the past four seasons. Head Coach Jeff Thurman also achieved his 100th career win this season.
4. CONSENT ITEMS. On a single consent motion, the board approved:
a. Minutes from the Feb. 21 Board work session and regular meeting.
b. The financial report for February.
5. ACTIONS REQUIRED BY LAW
a. The Board approved bills for February in the amount of $2,011,196.
b. The Board committed $50,000 to the remodel of the Dundy County Hospital Foundation building to be used by MPCC for classroom space with distance learning capabilities.
6. REPORTS
a. Vice President of Academic Affairs and NPCC Dr. Jody Tomanek presented a program scorecard.
b. Cabinet Reports: The Board heard reports from MPCC President Ryan Purdy, Vice President of Academic Affairs and NPCC Dr. Jody Tomanek, Vice President of Student Affairs and MCC Kelly Rippen, Vice President of Administrative Services Mike Steele, Director of Institutional Effectiveness Tad Pfeifer, Director of Human Resources Rebecca Wrage, Director of Institutional Advancement Jake Rissler and Director of Marketing and Public Information Daniel Stinman.
7. CLOSED SESSION
a. The Board went into closed session at 7:27 p.m. to discuss real estate, personnel review and litigation.
b. The Board reconvened in open session at 7:35 p.m. No action was taken after reconvening in open session.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Upon hearing no further business, the Board moved to adjourn at 7:37 p.m. The next Board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. April 17 in McCook.
