A Lincoln County man has died following a motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon on East Highway 30.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched around 1:26 p.m. August 9 to an injury crash near mile marker 199. The crash involved a motorcycle and a pickup, but investigators determined the incident involved multiple westbound vehicles.
According to the sheriff’s office, Dale and Tammy Lake were traveling westbound on a Honda Trike motorcycle when they attempted to pass a John Deere tractor. The tractor was being led by a red Ford F-250 pickup.
Dale Lake pulled back into the westbound lane between the tractor and the red Ford pickup.
A pickup traveling behind the motorcycle then also attempted to pass the tractor and tried to overtake the motorcycle.
Investigators said Lake approached the red Ford pickup and began attempting to pass it. However, he was unable to complete the pass because the other pickup was also passing the tractor. Lake was unable to slow down to avoid a collision.
Dale and Tammy Lake were thrown from the motorcycle.
Both were wearing helmets and were transported by Brady and North Platte Fire to Great Plains Health for treatment of their injuries. Dale Lake was later transferred to Omaha for further treatment.
The sheriff’s office said Lake died Monday, August 10, from injuries sustained in the crash.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reconstructionists are investigating the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
The sheriff’s office expressed condolences to the Lake family and said it is praying for Tammy Lake as she continues to recover from her injuries.
