BRADY, NEB. - A truck driver has died after his semi-truck left the road, entered the median and came to a stop under the Platte Bridge near Brady this morning on I-80. Three troopers were treated for smoke inhalation, Nebraska State Patrol officials say.
According to Nebraska State Patrol officials, approximately at 8:00am this morning, Lincoln County 911 received report of the crash on I-80. The crash occurred near mile marker 201, east of Brady. The semi-truck was pinned under the Platte Bridge.
When first responders arrived at the scene of the accident, the semi-cab was fully engulfed in flames. Troopers were unsuccessful in reaching the semi-cab due to the smoke under the bridge. Once fire crews put the fire out, the driver was found deceased.
Three troopers were treated for smoke inhalation by Brady EMS according to NSP officials. I-80 closed westbound from Gothenburg after the accident occurred.
According to Nebraska 511, I-80 westbound from Gothenburg is now open. All eastbound lanes are open while the left lane at mile marker 201 westbound is closed as crews are still on scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
