Law enforcement investigating fatality accident on Highway 30 west of North Platte

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-A North Platte man has died following an automobile accident on Highway 30 near North Platte on Wednesday.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, on July 15, 2020 at 9:08 p.m., the Lincoln County 911 Center received a call of a head- on two vehicle accident, at mile marker 172 U.S. Highway 30 (approximately three miles west of North Platte, NE). Deputies and North Platte Fire and rescue responded to the scene.

Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstructionist was called to the scene to investigate. The investigation on the scene showed a westbound passenger vehicle attempted to pass another westbound vehicle, traveling into the eastbound lane. Upon entering the lane the passenger car immediately struck an eastbound SUV essentially head on.

Deputies arrived and found the driver of the passenger vehicle deceased. The deceased driver was identified as thirty-three year old Douglas Thompson of North Platte. Thompson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. The SUV was occupied by three subjects; all subjects were wearing their seatbelts. All three were transported to Great Plains Health with non-life threatening injuries.

The case remains under investigation, unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-For the second night in a row, law enforcement is investigating a fatality accident near North Platte.

At around 9:15 pm on Wednesday, a call came in to the North Platte 911 Center reporting a two-vehicle head on crash on Highway 30, about three miles west of North Platte. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities, and three other people were transported to Great Plains Health by North Platte Fire/Rescue with unknown injuries.
