Oren Eugene Carter, age 95, of McCook, NE passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Hillcrest Caring Center in McCook.
Oren was born April 7, 1926 in McClave, CO to Simeon J. and Jessie M. (Hartford) Carter. He was one of eleven siblings who attended elementary school in and around McClave. He later graduated from Colome High School in Colome, South Dakota in 1946. Following high school, Oren enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country from 1946-1947 and then again from 1950-1952 at which time he was Honorably Discharged.
Oren worked at many jobs over the years including the local elevator, on the railroad, in construction and at Dayco Rubber Products. He was a 50+ year member of Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook where he served on various committees and sang in the choir.
Oren married Eleanor Ruth (Nelms) Carter on September 5, 1970 at Memorial United Methodist Church.
Oren was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor Carter; eight brothers, Warren, Bryan, Ernest, Harvey, Marion, Calvin, Wayne and Forrest Carter; and two sisters, Velma Shade and Norma Dawson.
Those left to celebrate his life include brother-in-law, Roger Nelms of McCook, NE; sisters-in-law, Dona Nelms of Cambridge, NE and Shirley Nelms of McCook, NE; his many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Services will be held Tuesday, September 21 at 10:30 am at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with burial with military honors to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be the preceding Monday evening from 5 - 7 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
