#23 Men's Soccer delivers 2-0 win over Gonzaga during Socctoberfest

-- Powered by a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes, No. 23 Creighton Men's Soccer defeated Gonzaga 2-0 on Friday, September 4. The win pushed the Bluejays to 4-0-1 on the season, while Gonzaga fell to 2-2-1.

The match was a portion of Creighton's 14th Annual Socctoberfest celebration. The men's program moved to 11-2-1 in Socctoberfest matches. The Bluejay women's team also delivered a victory, 1-0 over Northern Colorado, earlier in the evening to delight the 3,521 fans in attendance.

The match with Gonzaga was also Creighton's first of two matches in the Jesuit Invitational, featuring Creighton, Gonzaga, Loyola-Chicago and Santa Clara. Earlier on Friday the Ramblers defeated the Broncos 3-2.

Creighton's victory over Gonzaga saw Matthew Reed score in his third consecutive match to put Creighton ahead 1-0 in the 81st minute (80:37) striking from eight yards in front of the net after passes from Spencer Sappleton and Brady Bragg.

Just under six minutes later Bragg finished a corner entry from Carter Derksen with 86:16 on the clock.

The Bluejays controlled possession for much of the contest, outshooting Gonzaga 17-8 in the match.

Creighton continues to host the Jesuit Invitational on Monday, September 7 as the Bluejays host Santa Clara at 5:30 pm in Morrison Stadium.
