Red flag warnings remain in effect for the Lincoln County area until 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a fire weather watch in place until 9 p.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service in North Platte warned.
Unusually high temperatures are expected again Wednesday and Thursday, with record or near-record highs in the upper-80s to low-90s possible.
South winds will continue to be strong — sustained at 15 to 25 mph and gusting up to 30 mph through Thursday afternoon.
There is a chance of relief in the early morning hours Friday, with a 20 percent chance of showers, increasing to 50 percent into Saturday morning. The wind overnight Thursday will pick up, sustained at 25 to 30 mph and gusting up to 50 mph.
By Friday and Saturday, the daytime high is only expected to be in the mid-50s to low-60s.
