Larry Doyle, age 83, of Bartley, passed away at the Kearney Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. He was born in McCook, Nebraska on September 13, 1940, to William and Eula (Tiller) Doyle. Larry attended school in Bartley and graduated from Bartley High School in 1958. In March of 1962, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was trained as an Aircraft Refueling Specialist. Larry was Honorably Discharged on January 28, 1966.
While stationed in Michigan, Larry met Barbara Pawlowski. The couple was married on August 14, 1965, in Roseville, Michigan. The couple made their home there until 1969 when they moved to Nebraska. Larry was employed at Bartley Equity and later for Bellamy John Deere in Arapahoe for over 40 years. He enjoyed riding his trike motorcycle. He and Barb would take day trips to casinos in South Dakota and Kansas. In early years, he could be found at Windy’s Pool Hall playing 10-point pitch with locals. He enjoyed his hunting and fishing along with golf. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Larry served as the mayor of the Bartley City Council. The couple took trips to Alaska, Ireland, and a cruise down the Atlantic Coast. Larry has been in the Nebraska Soldiers and Sailors Home in Kearney for the last four years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Eula; sister, Marilyn Moore; nephew, Mark Moore; niece, Kathy Reid; brothers-law, Vernon Dickson, Denny Messersmith and Eldon Moore.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara of Bartley; son, Todd of Bartley; daughter, Tammy (Todd) Tenopir of Waverly, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Messersmith of Bartley, and Vicki (Carl) Schmidt of Lincoln, Nebraska.
The family chose cremation. A Graveside Service will be held on March 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Bartley Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Air Force Honors Detail and the William Wight Post of the American Legion. Memorials may be left in Larry’s name to the Bartley Fire Department or the Bartley Rescue Squad. Friends may leave online condolences at lockenour.com.
