Florice Gadway (1937-2024)

Florice “Flo” Gadway, 86, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Linden Court. Florice was born on August 23, 1937 in Lander, Wyoming, the daughter of James W. and Nina R. (Young) Jolliff. When she was 6 months old, the family moved back to Nebraska.

Flo attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated from North Platte High School in 1955. On June 12, 1955 she was united in marriage to Gordon Gadway. Together they lived in several towns following his job with the telephone company. In 1956, Gordon was drafted and following basic training they lived in Long Branch, NJ until he was sent overseas to Korea. Flo moved back to NE with her folks and worked at Montgomery Wards for two years. Following Gordon’s discharge from the service they lived in Sidney, NE. Flo then attended beauty school, took her state boards and received her beauticians license in the state of NE in 1961. She worked as a beautician at the Pawnee Beauty Salon until purchasing the Shangra La Beauty Salon in 1965.
In 1982 they moved to Littleton, CO for 4 years, then back to their home at Lake Maloney, and in 2011 into the town of North Platte. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte since 1948. Flo was an active volunteer in the community especially with local nursing homes, American Legion baseball, Telephone Pioneer’s, NE Big Red Football and Volleyball. She was a member and volunteer with the RSVP, Gift of Hope Cancer Foundation, North Platte Community College sports programs, and Golden Games.

Florice was predeceased by her parents, James and Nina; brother in laws, Robert Gadway and Wesley Gadway, and other family.

Those left to cherish Flo’s memory are her husband of 69 years, Gordon; sister, Linda Gadway, nieces, Tracey (Gary) Kracl and family, Vicki (Gary) Wirth and family; brother in laws, Stanley (Marilyn) Gadway, Maynard Gadway; and a nephew, Dean (Kristine) Gadway.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery, near Maxwell. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21st at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
