About 180 students participated in commencement ceremonies at North Platte Community College Friday.

Friends and family gathered in the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium for the conferment of degrees, diplomas and certificates.

This year’s President’s Award was presented to Louie Stithem, former member of the Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors.

Nursing graduate Antonia Villani was the student commencement speaker. She also spoke during an Associate Degree Nursing pinning and commencement ceremony prior to the main commencement.

Among other things, Villani drew on personal experiences to encourage those in attendance to stay strong in the face of adversity.
