Victoria “Vicki” A. Drake, age 77, of McCook, Nebraska passed away Monday, May 20, 2024, at her home in McCook, Nebraska.
Vicki was born to parents Victor E. and Elva I. (Mitchem) Drake in McCook, NE on March 26, 1947. She was raised on a small acreage and graduated from Red Willow High School with the class of 1965.
Vicki would have liked to be remembered most for her love of God, and her willingness to tell anyone about Jesus and his love. Vicki was a member of the Assembly of God Church in McCook.
Her second love was her horses. Riding since she was young, Vicki became an excellent horseman. She and her dad would go on trail rides as often as possible, and she participated in parades, 4-H, and rodeos. She shared a first-place trophy for competing in barrel racing and pole bending in the horse division at Heritage Days Parade and Indianola Fun Days.
Being very talented in so many areas, Vicki was able to accomplish many creative art works. Many saddles were rebuilt and repaired by Vicki, and she sold much of the leatherwork she made. She was also an excellent seamstress, sewing many dresses for her mom. Actor Phil Lynde was the recipient of a western shirt she had sewn and embroidered the front and back yokes. He acknowledges her beautiful work with a handwritten thank you.
Over the years, Vicki worked at the Magrath Company, West Sale Barn Café, Chief Motel, Sarges, and was a ticket seller at the Fox Theater. She loved living in the country where she enjoyed the animals and an easy trip to the river where she, dad, and friend Marilyn could fish.
Vicki was proceeded in death by her parents.
Those left to celebrate her life are many cousins, extended family members and beloved cats.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Vicki’s family for funeral expenses and may be directed to Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, c/o the Drake Family, PO Box 476, McCook, NE 69001.
