Coach Fred Hoiberg and the University of Nebraska will start the season one man down after the NCAA handed down a 16 game suspension to Derrick Walker that stems back to his time with the University of Tennessee in 2018-19.
The nature of the violation has not been disclosed by any of the parties involved.
Coach Hoiberg was vocal in his support of Walker and the decision.
"Since arriving at Nebraska, Derrick Walker has been phenomenal at owning up to a mistake he made prior to coming here," Said Hoiberg. "He was transparent throughout the recruiting process and acknowledged his mistake. In turn, we told him confidently we would support and fight for him."
The decision for 16 games is based on a normal 31 game season. The University of Nebraska had hoped the decision would reflect the plan for a shorter season.
