Donald N. (“DN”, “Snuffy”) Smith, 74, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away May 21, 2024 at his home in North Platte. He was born on May 28, 1949 to Ray and Agnes (Sedlacek) Smith in North Platte.
On January 17, 1991 he was united in marriage to Valma Bullington Shimmin. He was a 40 plus year employee of the Union Pacific Railroad as a carman. He loved old cars and was especially proud of his 2001 Corvette. He was a self-proclaimed mechanic who loved old music.
Don is survived by his wife of 33 years, Valma; children, Becky Matthewson, Bernie Smith, Kerri Smith Harvey, Rebecca (Aaron) Rabenberg, Sturgis, South Dakota, Walter (Jeannie) Shimmin, North Platte, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Merril Smith; sisters, Colleen Savage, Anita Brooks; brothers-in-law, Cecil (Micky) Bullington, Garth Bullington; sisters-in-law, Merry (Gary) Venezie, Alisa (Leonard) Phillips, Marsha Bullington (Darwin Munson); along with many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray; two infant sisters; father-in-law, Veldon Bullington; brother-in-law, Edwin Bullington; sisters-in-law, Alice Marie Bullington, Jodi Ann Bullington; as well as several other family members.

Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Evans officiating. Inurnment will be at 2:00 P.M. following the service at the Miller Cemetery, Tryon, Nebraska.
