Governor Jim Pillen has appointed North Platte District Court Judge Michael E. Piccolo to the Nebraska Court of Appeals, representing the Sixth Judicial District.
The appointment was announced April 16 by the Governor’s Office. Piccolo will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Frankie J. Moore.
Piccolo has served in Nebraska’s 11th Judicial District since 2010, beginning as a county court judge before later becoming a district court judge. In addition to his work on the bench, he has presided over the Midwest Problem Solving Court in Lincoln County since 2020 and has more recently overseen drug courts in both Lincoln and Dawson counties.
Before his judicial career, Piccolo worked as an attorney with multiple firms in North Platte. He has also been involved with the Nebraska Lawyers Referral Program, which provides pro bono legal services, and has been recognized as a fellow of the Nebraska State Bar Foundation.
Piccolo earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and his law degree from Creighton University School of Law.
The Nebraska Court of Appeals serves as the state’s intermediate appellate court and hears cases from across Nebraska in three-judge panels.
The Sixth Judicial District covers a large portion of western and central Nebraska, including Lincoln County and surrounding areas.
