
Roger William Hood, 80, of North Platte, passed away at Great Plains Health on June 18, 2023. He was born to Harold and Eleanor (Jorgensen) Hood on September 22, 1942 in Gothenburg, NE.
Roger was raised in Gothenburg, where he also attended school. On October 22, 1960, he married Doris Harriman. They had five children together: Rick, Stan, Roger Jr., Sherri, and Deborah, who passed away in infancy. His wife, Doris, passed away in May of 2005. Roger later met Ruomi Lewis in 2007. The couple married on July 17, 2017 in Stapleton, NE. They lived in Brady and Gothenburg before making their home in North Platte.
For several years, Roger and his brother, Don, drove a semi-truck cross-country. He then worked for Sargent’s Irrigation in Gothenburg and most recently, for the City of Gothenburg in the maintenance department for 26 years before retiring due to health issues.
Roger was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping and taking his grandson fishing. Family BBQs were a regular event for the Hood family. He loved to grill and taught many the art of grilling. Roger was quite a character, always teasing and cracking jokes. Always holding a special bond with his grandkids, he was given the nickname “Eeyore” by a granddaughter. Roger never lost his sense of humor, even throughout his health struggles.
Family left to remember Roger’s spirit include his wife, Ruomi, of North Platte; children, Rick (Tish) Hood, of Brady, Stan (Crystal) Hood, of Brady, Roger Jr. (Cammy) Hood, of Sioux Falls, SD, and Sherri (Justin) Lazootin, of Blue Springs, MO; 7 granddaughters; 6 grandsons; 20 great grandchildren; sister, Sandy Thompson, Wallisville, TX; siblings-in-law, Don Harriman, of Colorado, Donna Lange, of Callaway, Mary (Kenny) Robbins, of Alliance, Kathy (Jack) Andersen, of Lakeside, Donna (Myron) Kugler, of Corpus Christi, TX, JoAnn (Kenny) Rundback, of Stapleton; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family.
Those that preceded him in death are his parents; infant daughter, Deborah; wife, Doris; brother, Don Hood; sisters, Norma Sanchez and Joan Heimen.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 2 P.M. at the property of Ross & Terri Widick, 29265 East Fort McPherson Road, Brady, NE, 69123 (Nobel Springs), with Pastor Gene Darling officiating.
