
Janice Mae (Whipple) Dewey, age 80, of North Platte, NE passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Great Plains Hospital in North Platte. She was born on October 9, 1941 in Longpine, NE, the daughter of Karl Walter and Margaret Ann (Welfl) Whipple.
Janice and her family moved to Brady, NE in the 3rd grade, and she graduated from Brady High School in 1960. She was united in marriage to Marvin Dewey on December 4, 1961. To this union 3 children were born, Tamela Jo, Kandi Kae and James Lee. The family moved to North Platte in January 1962, where she worked at J.C. Penney’s Department store for 18 years, and later worked for 15 years at Wal-Mart. She loved all of her customers and co-workers from her time at J.C. Penney’s and Wal-Mart. She loved sitting outside on her porch, arts and crafts, crochet, and dancing with her friend Chuck. She enjoyed her dog “Boots” and spending time with her children and grandchildren, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are children, Kandi Kae (Mark) Bailey and James Lee Dewey both of North Platte; grandchildren, Brent Scott, Landon (Chelsea) and Jordan (Kelsey) Bailey and Jamie Jolee Dewey (Rob Beam); great grandchildren, Wyatt Anderson, Jaci, Karsyn, Ansel, Weslyn and Layton Bailey; brother, Tom (Jeannie) Whipple of Arapahoe; and special friend, Chuck Matthews of North Platte; and numerous nieces, nephews, and her dog “Bootsie.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin; her daughter, Tamela Jo; grandson, Garrett Ryan Bailey; sister, Marlene (Ed) Myers; parents in law, Eau Claire and Marge Dewey; and sister and brother-in-law, Sue (Don) House.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022 with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, NE. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5th at the funeral home. The family requests to wear purple casual dress to the services in honor of Janice’s favorite color. Cremation will follow. A private family burial at the Gaslin Cemetery near Brady, NE will be at a later date. Carpenter Memorial Chapel of North Platte is in charge of arrangements.
