Christel W. Lakatosh went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 19, 2023. Christel Edith Johanna Weitschies-Lakatosh was born on May 8, 1932 in Seckenburg, East Prussia to Paul Weitschies Margarete Mandel.
Christel trained and worked as a dental hygienist in Chicago, Illinois. She married Andrew Frank Lakatosh on June 25, 1960 in Oak Park, Illinois. They lived in Illinois for several years until Andrew had a work transfer to Littleton, Colorado in 1971. They lived there for almost 40 years. Christel worked as a devoted wife and mother. They moved to McCook in 2010 to be closer to the grandchildren, whom they loved dearly. Christel went to as many of her grandchildren’s sporting events as she could, and when she couldn’t, she listened to them on the radio. Her hobbies included reading her Bible and praying for others, telling others about her faith, cooking amazing German dishes, singing hymns, talking to her relatives in Germany and Canada, and meeting with the German Ladies of McCook.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Andrew Frank Lakatosh; her parents and several siblings.
Christel is survived by her sister, Asta Tiβberger of Germany; her brother Juergen Weitschies and wife, Ute Weitschies of Germany; her son, David Andrew Lakatosh, of Aurora, CO; daughter Deborah Jean (Lakatosh) Arp and husband, Gregory Thomas Arp of McCook, NE; grandson Christopher Lee Arp and wife, Korin Arp of Friend, NE; grandson Colin Tyler Arp of Longmont, CO; granddaughter, Emily Christel Arp and grandson, Mark Andrew Arp, both of McCook; many nieces and nephews; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10AM on Saturday morning, November 25, 2023 at the McCook Memorial Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Kelley officiating. No viewing or visitation, the casket will remain closed prior to services. Burial will take place in the Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook after services.
