Charlotte Lee Nowlin, age 98, of North Platte, passed away at Linden Court on October 16, 2021.
Charlotte was born to Walter and Florence Powers on April 6, 1923, in Boone County, near Beaver, Iowa. She graduated as Valedictorian of Beaver High School Class of 1941, then attended business college in Grand Island.
On August 2, 1942, Charlotte was united in marriage to Dean Nowlin at Grand Island. The couple later moved to North Platte in '48. Charlotte worked at Fairmont Foods, then for the Telegraph. She retired from the newspaper in 1982 after working there for 26 years.
Charlotte was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and volunteered with RSVP. She was a member of M & K Kiwanis Club and was lieutenant governor, past secretary and past president for District #24, and a member of Signet Chapter #55 Order of Eastern Star where she also served as Worthy Matron.
Charlotte enjoyed sewing, cross stitching and quilting with a group at church. She also liked to do scrapbooking and traveling when she could.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, and their son, William Nowlin; her parents, Walter and Florence Powers; brothers, Joe and James Powers; and grandsons, Eric Ridgway and William Nowlin II.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Karen (Jim) Ridgway, of Box Elder, SD; brother, Robert (Lois) Powers, of Ogdon, IA; granddaughters, Sabrina (Mark) Chastain and Cheri (Mark) Mac Authur; granddaughter-in-law, Debra Nowlin (Lawrence Aragon); great-grandchildren, Connor and Logan Nowlin, MacKenzie Victoria Chastain, and Taylor, Aidan and Colin Mac Authur; as well as other family.
Funeral service with Eastern Star Rites will be 1 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.
