Linda Barnes age 74 of Broken Bow died Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Callaway District Hospital.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family. Online condolences can be left at www.govierbrothers.com
Linda was born November 8th, 1949, to James (Jim) and Madonna (Janson) Nichelson in Lexington, NE. She and her two brothers grew up all over the United States as Jim put up Hay Mills.
In January of 1972, she married Delson Runyan. To this union one child was born, Dawnell. On August 15th, 1981, she married Maynard Barnes who brought four children with him into this union, Rhonda, George, Jr., Terry, and Lori.
Linda lived a full life, from living in Florida to California, then back to Nebraska. Linda worked as a waitress at Tumbleweed and Stockman’s Café, and a baker at Grocery Kart. Linda and Maynard enjoyed camping and fishing. They were camp hosts at Merritt Reservoir from 2005 until 2021. They met many people from all over the United States and became well-known throughout Nebraska and surrounding States. They enjoyed helping people who were new to the area.
Linda is survived by her loving husband, Maynard Barnes, daughters, Rhonda (Bill) Woods of Ansley, Lori (Jamie) Bonde of Callaway, Dawnell (Shannon Paul) Ford of Wilcox, two sons, George (Sharron) Barnes of Litchfield, Terry Barnes of Ansley, sisters-in-law Myrna Nichelson of Chula Vista, CA, Lauretta Rice of Dunning, Jan Barnes of Valentine, and Patti Barnes of Broken Bow, and brother Mike Nichelson of Lexington. Along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Linda was preceded in death by both of her parents, one brother, Jerry Nichelson, mother-in-law, Mary Larsen, fathers-in-law, Lyle Barnes and Bobby Larsen, brothers-in-law Everett Barnes, Lyle Barnes, Bill Copper, and Don Rice, sisters-in-law Winnona Love and Marion Copper.
