He was raised in South East Nebraska, attending schools and graduating high school from Talmage High School in 1951. Immediately upon graduation, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force. He spent some time stationed in Japan which he was most excited about. There, he picked up the language and would often speak Japanese to the nurses and staff that took care of him in his final years of life.
While visiting his parents in Trenton, Jerry met Dixie Miller. They were married on August 13, 1956, in Trenton, NE. The couple had two children, Sherrie and Randy. Jerry was discharged from the military in 1957. He and Dixie made their forever home in Trenton where he lived for over 50 years. Jerry’s entire working life was spent farming on Millerville Ranch North of Trenton.
Jerry was a member of several clubs including the Eagles, the Moose, the American Legion, and the Elk’s Club. He was involved in bowling leagues and enjoyed hunting of all kinds, but especially pheasants. Gardening was one of Jerry’s biggest passions. He gardened an assortment of vegetables and loved to can, anything from cinnamon pickles to sauerkraut. He was known to have an outstanding memory and would often tease the nurses. The family would like to express an abundance of gratitude to the staff at the Central Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Kearney.
