
News Release North Platte/Lincoln County Visitors Bureau
Local event organizers continue to work hard to create fun and exciting events in North Platte that bring in visitors and contribute to the economic vitality of our community in addition to giving locals and visitors options for unique activities.
The North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau Advisory Committee was established by the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners under the authority of the Nebraska Visitors Development Act and administers the annual budget set for the Visitors Bureau by the Board of Commissioners. This annual budget, funded entirely by lodging tax revenue, includes line items for grants to local events and attractions for activities that attract visitors to Lincoln County to use our visitor services.
Under this authority, the North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau Advisory Committee made the following recommendations and approved grant funding at a special meeting held on May 4, 2022. The applications totaled $92,885.83 in requests and a total of $38,187.00 was awarded.
Tyler Felton representing the North Platte Disc Golf Club presented a Sports Incentive Fund grant to purchase 18-disc golf baskets, 9 portable and 9 permanent, to allow North Platte Disc Golf to host disc golf Tier A tournaments. The advisory committee approved $4,400 in Sports Incentive funding to North Platte Disc Golf to purchase 9 portable disc golf baskets.
Rob Cappa and Karla Axford representing Platte River Cruise presented an Incentive Fund Grant to help with the cost of hosting the event. $6,000 in Incentive funding was approved by the advisory committee to help with expenses incurred for this event.
Charlene Swalberg representing the North Platte Pow Wow presented an Incentive Fund grant for prize money, Chicken Dance Special, Tiny Tot, Golden Age, Drum/Singing Contest, and Veteran’s Special. The advisory committee approved $5,000 in Incentive funding to North Platte Pow Wow for prize money.
Amy Oettinger representing Pals Brewing Company presented a Promotional Fund grant to help in marketing the Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival. $2,000 in Promotional funding was approved by the advisory committee to the Western Nebraska Beer Festival to help promote the festival.
Jim Griffin representing the Lincoln County Historical Museum presented a Promotional Fund grant for brochure printing and distribution, and print and online marketing for events throughout the year. The advisory committee approved $5,212 in Promotional funding to the Lincoln County Historical Museum for the brochures and marketing.
Jim Jackson, Ron Axtell, John Herksick, and Carol Herksick representing Colonel Cody Cruise presented a Promotional Fund grant to help promote the event. The advisory committee approved $1,000 in Promotional funding to Colonel Cody Cruise to advertise this event on the Kearney TV station KHGI.
Kandace Ward representing Flip Flop and Tank Tops Futurity presented via Zoom a Promotional Fund grant for poster printing and social media marketing and an Incentive Fund grant for to help with the cost of hosting the event. The advisory committee approved $175 in Promotional funding to promote event and $2,000 in Incentive funding to Flip Flops and Tank Tops Futurity for prize money.
Russ Jones representing Midwest Championship Fighting Salute to Veterans presented via phone a Sports Incentive Fund grant to help with contender fighter expense. $4,000 in Sports Incentive funding to Midwest Championship Fighting Salute to Veterans for contender fighter expenses was approved by the advisory committee.
Sarah Talbott and Amanda Connick representing the Canteen Festival presented a Promotional Fund grant for marketing the Fall Canteen Festival and an Incentive Fund grant to help with the cost of hosting the event. The advisory committee approved $1,400 in Promotional funding to be used to promote the event and $2,500 in Incentive funding to the North Platte Canteen Festival to be used to cover the cost of the Saturday evening Big Band event.
Brad Garrick representing Buffalo Bill Brawl Boxing Tournament and Samantha Geisler representing the North Platte Area Sports Commission, a division of the North Platte Visitors Bureau, presented a Promotional Fund grant for social media and TV advertising and a Sports Incentive Fund grant for a corner sponsorship at the boxing event. The advisory committee approved $4,500 in Sports Incentive funding to support the event.
The next round of funding is now open, with a July 1 deadline for events or projects occurring in October, November, and December 2022. These applications will be considered at the regular monthly Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for July 27, 2022. Anyone interested in submitting a grant application is encouraged to contact the Visitors Bureau at 308-532-4729 and discuss their project with a staff member.
Grant funds, marketing and operating expenses for the North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau are funded solely through the lodging taxes that are collected and remitted for overnight stays by lodging properties in Lincoln County. It is thanks to the efforts of the lodging property partners located within the county that funds are available to attract more visitors, which have a significant impact on the economic well-being of our Lincoln County communities.
