NPPD: North Platte Man Arrested After Knife Attack During Altercation; Victim Stable

On 10-26-2025, at 9:00 A.M., North Platte Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of E 10 th on the report of a prior physical disturbance. The investigation showed that Dewaine Nichols age 56 and a 49-year-old male were involved in an altercation. The altercation turned physical and Nichols allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the 49 year old several times in the neck, head and shoulders. The victim was able to retrieve his phone and call for help. The victim was transported to the hospital by a private party where he was interviewed by police officers. Nichols fled the area. Dewaine Nichols was contacted by police at around 3:00 P.M. near C St., and Buffalo Bill Avenue. Nichols was arrested for Second Degree Assault a Class IIA Felony and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony, a Class II Felony. Nichols was incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

The victim was reported to be in stable condition.
