LEXINGTON, Neb.-Local student Braeden Anderson broadened his understanding of the unique role of public power at the Nebraska Rural Electric Association Youth Energy Leadership Camp. Anderson is the son of Brock and Stacy Anderson of Gothenburg.
Dawson Public Power District sponsored three students to attend the week-long camp in July. The camp’s purpose is to teach students about the electric utility industry and public power in Nebraska, and build their leadership skills.
Approximately 46 students from around the state gathered at the Nebraska State 4-H Camp in Halsey. The group participated in interesting workshops, fascinating demonstrations and presentations by regional experts. Tours of the Gerald Gentleman Power Station and the Kingsley Hydro-Electric Power Plant provided a first-hand look at the process of generating electricity.
Dawson Public Power District is a Nebraska rural electric utility system that serves south central Nebraska along the Platte River Valley. Organized in 1937, Dawson PPD provides service to more than 23,000 electric meters and maintains over 5,800 miles of power lines. The district’s 5,800 square miles territory includes all of the rural areas in Dawson and Buffalo Counties, approximately two-thirds of Gosper County, a third of Lincoln County and parts of Custer, Sherman and Frontier Counties.
