The North Platte Police Department made 421 traffic contacts and issued 114 citations during a high-visibility traffic enforcement campaign conducted July 27 through August 9.
The campaign was conducted in cooperation with the Nebraska Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Of the 114 citations issued, 33 were for speeding, while 56 involved registration or no-insurance violations. Officers also issued 11 citations for traffic signal or stop sign violations, 11 for driving under suspension, four for leaving the scene of an accident and two for reckless driving.
Two people were cited for open container violations, and three juveniles were cited for minor in possession of alcohol.
Officers also made several arrests during the enforcement campaign. Six drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, and 15 arrest warrants were served.
Two people were arrested for burglary and firearms violations following a traffic stop. Another traffic stop resulted in two arrests on drug and firearm charges.
During that stop, officers seized 102 suspected fentanyl pills, 9.83 grams of suspected methamphetamine, Clonazepam, Hydrocodone and Xanax pills, a firearm and $3,500 in cash.
The North Platte Police Department says the high-visibility campaign was aimed at improving traffic safety and reducing dangerous driving behaviors.
