Lincoln County Treasurer arrested for felony theft

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-Lincoln County's Treasurer has been arrested on suspicion of theft following an investigation into suspicious transactions.

According to North Platte police, on Wednesday, the department received information regarding suspicious financial activity within the Lincoln County Treasurer's Office.

Police said an investigation was initiated, which confirmed several transactions involving Treasurer Shelli Franzin that appeared to be "personal in nature."

Police said as a result of the investigation, probable cause was established to arrest Franzen on suspicion of theft by deception, $1,500-$5,000, a Class IV felony, and misconduct by a public servant, a misdemeanor.

On Thursday, police said Franzen was taken into custody without incident and jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners will hold an emergency meeting on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
