
Evelyn 'Evie' Shults of North Platte, Nebraska passed away at home on July 4, 2021, at the age of 87.
Evie was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Monroe and Ollie Hughes on May 30, 1934. She grew up in Hot Springs and later Dunsmuir, California, where she graduated from high school, then the Hughes family moved to Grant, Nebraska.
While working at a diner in Grant, Evie met Warren Shults. The couple
married on November 13, 1954, in Raton, New Mexico, then made their home in Grant, Nebraska. In 1959 they moved to North Platte, Nebraska where they raised their children, Vickie and Mark, and later owned Shults Construction. Evie was very involved with the business doing interior decorating and staging.
When in high school, Evie was a majorette. Years later she and Warren
enjoyed being active and socializing. They liked dancing, going to
Husker games, attending the grandkids sporting events and going out to
the Elks and American Legion. Evie especially enjoyed her trips to
Washington to visit Vickie and Denny and go boating with them, but most importantly, Evie loved being with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; her parents, Monroe
and Ollie Hughes; sisters, Louise Andrighetto and Carol Lehl; and
son-in-law, Denny Evans.
Evie is survived by her daughter, Vickie Evans, of Chattaroy, Washington; son, Mark (Diane) Shults, of North Platte, Nebraska; grandkids, Shawn (Dan) Pilkinton, Michael (Melissa) Shults, Natalie (Judd) Songster and Bobby Shults (Carleigh Smith); great-grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel, Alyssa, Haley, Noah, Ollie and Pyper; and other family members.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, at First United
Methodist Church in North Platte, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte.
