Hastings, Neb. – The Knights men’s basketball team eclipsed the century mark in a 101-61 win over Hastings College JV on Tuesday night.
“We were really unselfish on offense and aggressive on defensive tonight,” said head coach Jacob Brandl. “Our guys were completely locked in from start to finish and I thought our attention to detail was the best it has been.”
It was a tightly contested opening five minutes until a 21-3 run propelled the Knights out to a 29-13 lead. During the nearly six-minute stretch, Maurice Reide led the Knights with six points including a one-handed jam in transition.
Broncos cut the margin to 29-15 with 6:35 to play, but an 8-3 burst by the Knights extended their lead to 19. Hastings once again paused the rally with a corner three, before an 11-2 run gave the Knights a 48-23 halftime lead.
North Platte surged out of the break to construct a 63-31 lead on a pair of Reide free throws. A quick 7-0 Bronco burst narrowed the margin to 25 with 13:54 to play. The Knights never let the Broncos get any closer as they stretched their lead to 40 by the end of regulation.
North Platte (4-5) will return to Region IX action against the Lancers of Eastern Wyoming College on Friday. Tip is set for 7 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium in North Platte.
