
Darrell Eugene 'Dick' Leibert passed away on January 8, 2021 at Roselane Nursing Home in Loup City, Nebraska where he was a resident since October 2020. Dick was born to Howard and Almedia Leibert in Sargent, Nebraska on September 27, 1934.
After graduating high school in Sargent, he started trucking with cousins, Roger and Rex Leibert. He married Shirley Sue Wells on June 26, 1954. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Dick worked for J.I.Case. To this union, first son Steve was born in Omaha in 1954. After a few years they moved back to Sargent and lived on the George Leibert homestead north of town. Shortly after moving back a second son Richard was born in 1957. In 1958 Tim joined the family and Dick went to work for Co-op sometime later. In 1962 Terry was born completing the family.
Dick joined the Sargent Fire Department in the late 1960’s and became an EMT and also the Civil Defense Director for the Department. In August 1969, L and L Service was started by Dick and good friend Keith Landon. In 1972 they formed L and L Trucking, hauling their own fuel as well as cattle and grain. They ran a gas station/convenience store until his wife Shirley passed away in 2004.
Dick enjoyed visiting with friends, reading his books on war history, having coffee at Trotters and going to the casinos now and then.
Dick is survived by his Sister, Conni Bomberger, sons Richard and wife Rosemary, Tim and wife Terri, and Terry and wife Terese: 8 grandchildren, Vince, Becky, Eric, Tony, Chris, Ashley, Zack and Carley. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Shirley; his infant sister (Donna; his parents Howard and Almedia Leibert; a son Steve Leibert; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Leibert; and brother-in-law, Marlin Bomberger.
Graveside service will be Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent, NE.
Memorials are suggested to the Sargent Fire Department.
